The City of Salina is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to become part of our progressive and community-oriented Police Department. As a Police Officer, you will utilize modern tools and techniques to serve and protect the residents and visitors of Salina.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot to deter crime while engaging with residents to build community partnerships.

• Respond swiftly to emergency calls using sound judgment; conduct initial investigations into criminal activities involving adults or juveniles.

• Leverage advanced technology for surveillance activities; handle service calls efficiently through various communication systems like radio dispatch.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues while actively contributing innovative ideas for enhancing safety strategies within the city.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social sciences, or related fields is preferred but not mandatory.

• Must successfully complete Kansas Law Enforcement certification within one year from hire date—training assistance provided by the department!

Experience:

• A minimum of one year working directly with people in roles such as security services, customer relations with conflict resolution responsibilities, emergency medical response under pressure (EMT), social work addressing individual needs—or other positions that demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

• Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required.

Additional Requirements:

• Candidates must be at least 21 years old by their start date.

• No residency restrictions for new hires; however certain specialized units require living within 40 minutes’ response time.

• Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license before employment begins.

Compensation & Benefits:
The starting hourly pay ranges from $27.76-$29.15 ($57K-$60K annually), based on qualifications (DOQ). Officers working evening/night shifts between 6 PM–6 AM earn an additional $1.50/hour differential pay.
