Fire Suppression, Rescue, & HazMat Response

• Responds to fires, EMS calls, hazardous materials incidents, & other emergencies.

• Performs firefighting tasks such as hose evolutions, operating pumps/related equipment, ventilation, ladders, extrication, & salvage/overhaul.

• Performs duties at hazardous materials incidents consistent with operational-level training.

EMS (BLS for EMT / ALS for Paramedic)

• Provides emergency medical treatment at the Basic Life Support (EMT) level or Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) level based on certifications.

• Serves on an ambulance on a rotating basis; checks vehicles, supplies, & equipment; assists with care & transport as needed.

• Paramedic-level duties include advanced assessment & ALS interventions for medical & trauma emergencies, establishing treatment priorities, & completing patient documentation & forms.

Minimum Qualifications (Both Roles)

• High school diploma or GED.

• Must be at least 18 years old at start date of employment.

• Valid Kansas driver’s license.

• Must obtain a Kansas Class B CDL within one (1) year of start date.

• Tobacco-free requirement: Successful candidates are prohibited from smoking or using tobacco products at any time, on or off the job.

• NIMS certifications: 100, 200, 700, 800.

• Physical ability: CPAT within prior year or Salina PAT during hiring process.

• Fire certifications: IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I & II, Hazmat Awareness & Hazmat Operations—or obtain within one (1) year of start date.

EMS Certification Requirements
Firefighter/EMT (BLS)

• National Registry or Kansas EMT certification.

Firefighter/Paramedic (ALS)

• National Registry or Kansas Paramedic certification.

• ACLS & PALS required or obtain within one (1) year of start date.

Starting Pay DOQ EOE:
· Firefighter/EMT: $49,878-52,416/yr.
· Firefighter/Paramedic: $57,741-60,628/yr.
